I went running!!!



Today I went running. 
Yep, you got the right. 
Today I actually exercised!!!! 

I have never been 'thin'. I have always carried puppy fat and extra weight for as long as I can remember! 
However in spring/summer 2013, I found myself working out each night, eating right and toning up! At the time I still felt 'overweight' however looking back on those pictures I think WOW! I was SKINNY!! Did I feel it at the time? Hell no! But I was HAPPY! 
Talking to my therapist about when I last felt 'happy' with everything in my life, it takes me back to then. Summer/Autumn/Winter 2013. Especially back to a winter city break with my best friend Lucy.
Anyhoo, getting off track as usual. 
Today I woke up, haven't exercised for over a year and a half (due to my spinal injury and being majorly depressed), I got Mister out of bed and decided to go on a run. Now, I am not one for the cold! Yes I would LOVE to go somewhere snowy on vacation, however when it comes down to feeling the cold, I am a BIG moaner. Yep. 
So I started layering up and trying to be super fast at getting ready and out of the house, so I didn't change my mind. I put on leggings, trainers, a thermal vest, hoodie and gillet, oh and filled up my new water bottle that I bought nearly a year ago (knew it would come in handy).
We drove to a local park got out the car and Mister pushed me from the moment go. When I say pushed, I mean I was breathless, beetroot in the face and ultimately shattered! 
We started off power walking as we previously read that people with spinal injury's are to start fitness by brisk walking for 3 minutes and jogging/running for 1 due to the impact. I can do this, I can totalllyyy do this I thought! So we started. My legs where running, my breathing sounded like Darth Vader. In my head I totally imagined myself to look like a struggling, flying whale of some sort! To Mister, I just looked like anyone else trying to get fit.
I'm not going to lie, it was NOT easy by all means. I was getting more and more out of breath the more I done, but I will tell you at each rest time, I felt great! I am finally doing something about my wight which is causing me so much frustration! Not fitting into any clothes without a fight of a morning isn't the best way to start the day. But finally! I am on the right track.
A little app that I used was on my Samsung S4 phone I think its called 'S health'. I set it up to monitor the activity from start to finish however I had it on the 'walking mode' when I should of really put it on 'light exercise' to get a more accurate result. 
And here is the final result. 1 hour and 50 mins later I have achieved..


My top tips for anyone wanting to get fit:
  • You don't need to join a gym! You can use the outdoors as a treadmill and I guarantee you won't get bored!
  • Don't spend tons of money of gym clothes. Your working out and sweating. Who cares what you look like!
  • Work out buddies help tons! Find a family member or a friend to boost and motivate you along the way! 
  • Don't give up or compare yourself to others! This is your journey and you should be happy and proud for starting!
So here is to a happy 2015 of happiness, health and fitness!
